NYS RPSS HIGH RISK EDUCATOR I

BASIC FUNCTION

Responsible for implementing prevention education programs and conducting outreach for high-risk populations.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Implement and facilitate Interventions Delivered to Groups (IDGs), Interventions Delivered to Individuals (IDIs), Health Communication/Public Information (HC/PI) events, Community Level Interventions (CLIs), and Diffusion of Effective Behavioral Intervention (DEBIs) for students, out-of-school youth, substance users, economically deprived, culturally diverse, physically and mentally challenged populations, all in accordance with state work plan objectives.
  2. Conduct ongoing specialized outreach activities targeted to reach individuals and communities who may be at risk for HIV infection including: inmates; the homeless; drug and alcohol dependent persons; people of color; LGBTQ adolescents and women.
  3. Distribute: A) Information relating to HIV/AIDS/HCV/STI prevention education and risk reduction information B) Condoms C) Referrals D) Program Client Incentives (i.e. Food/gift cards).
  4. Responsibilities may require occasional flexing of work schedule to allow for attendance to evening and/or weekend activities.
  5. Conduct outreach to recruit HIV+ and at-risk individuals into agency programs.
  6. Implement peer adolescent training programs in school districts.
  7. Ensure that outcomes projected in the New York State RPSS work plan are being tracked and met.
  8. Assist with the acquisition of literature, materials and audiovisuals from the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute and other agency approved sources.
  9. Collect and analyze data and demographics for annual projections.
  10. Maintain and update all records of programs and outreach initiatives and conduct ongoing evaluation procedures for these programs.
  11. Assist in the development and implementation of training programs for: new departmental staff; agency staff and community members (i.e. CASAC Workshops).
  12. Assist with the development and updating of departmental health related curriculums.
  13. Participate in conducting agency new hire education orientation/CASAC training delivery.
  14. Harvest viable community contacts and maintain positive rapports with existing collaborative    community partners.
  15. Assist with Education Departmental duty of providing coverage for quarterly agency internal staff trainings.
  16. Attend grant/state specific trainings as indicated by departmental administration.
  17. Use of primary personal vehicle for completion of program outreach as needed.
  18. Attend bi-weekly supervision and/or grant project meetings.
  19. Ensure all policy and procedures are adhered to when accessing/requesting: supplies; materials; and client incentives.
  20. Provide coverage for: agency hotline and closing team as needed.
  21. Represent the agency on various community committees as assigned.
  22. While HIV/HCV/STI testing skills are not expected at this time, should grant expectations change, training on: skill, procedure and protocol will be provided and CTR description(s) will be added to this job description.
  23. Other duties as assigned.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

High Risk Educator I will report to the Education Coordinator and Director of Prevention Education

 QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree, extensive HIV/AIDS knowledge, excellent public speaking and writing skills, and experience working with adolescents required.
